Pretty in Prague: Part I

Catching a cheap flight to Germany meant that we had only an evening and a day in Prague, but I managed to take the most pictures of anywhere we’ve been (including Heidelberg, which is where I’m riding a train from currently).  This is because you can’t turn a corner in Prague without seeing amazing architecture or a really old building. Couple this with the cheap food and beer and it makes sense that the place is overrun with hipsters and tourists over 65 from the world over.

On the train ride from Warsaw we sat in a cabin with Fabricio, who is from Brazil and also came to see the concert. (He’s even more hardcore as he was on his way to Prague in order to see the concert *again*.) He had a hostel reservation (unlike us) and a guidebook to the city (unlike us), so we tagged along with him and got a room in the same hostel.  Great place, by the way - Downtown Hostel is clean, with friendly, helpful staff, public computers, multiple wifi access points, a kitchen, washing machine, and comfy common room. It’s also a great location in the city; I recommend it. Bring ear plugs.

This is looking across the street from our room. I like it.

We ate dinner at a place around the corner that had Czech food, and it was amazing. We drank local beer

and this is where I discovered beets that weren’t repulsive. :) Robin had to do his homework, so I went out with Fabricio to take nighttime pics of the city.

(Ok guys, I seriously took about 400 pictures of this stupid/awesome castle and cathedral. It’s addictive because it’s so pretty and photogenic. I have whittled down the pics to as few as I think you will put up with. Also I have discovered I take every picture crooked, so let’s overlook that, eh?)

A couple hours and hundred pictures later, my feet hurt and we started hunting for a bar to relax in.  The Louvre is a rock bar conveniently across the street from the hostel. The bars are smoking allowed and no air conditioning, but they were playing good music and the beer was ridiculously cheap.

Check out the guitar-shaped table and the size of the $1.50 pilsners:

I called it a night so that Robin and I could get up and do it all again in the daylight the next day.
